How to Get Verified on TikTok in 2023

Wondering “How do I get verified on TikTok

If you’re looking to get verified on TikTok, you’re in good company. Fraud is running rampant online, and is expected to rise as more platforms launch shops, subscriptions and other ways for creators and brands to sell socially. TikTok verification is a great way to prove to your clients that you are who you say you are, establishing that confidence from the first interaction or encounter.

To put the value of verification in perspective, consider the following statistic: The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has found that consumers lost an estimated $2.7 billion between the start of 2021 to June 2023. As a result, customers have been wary of purchasing goods off of social media — which means that every day a business or creator goes unverified, money is being left on the table.

Choosing to get verified on TikTok boosts consumer confidence and encourages a chance of conversion over time. The average social media conversion rate across channels is 2%-2.37%. Even just a percent of this count across TikTok’s 1.1 billion monthly active users could be life-changing for a creator brand or small business. It also opens you up to higher user engagement and viewership as well, growing your account for little to no effort.

Additionally, a recent study found an interesting correlation you should know: Accounts with a higher number of followers often had lower engagement rates. The exception? Individuals with verified non-branded accounts — which, on average, saw a 17% engagement rate across content; a whopping 12-15% increase over other unverified accounts.

In short? This jump in engagement and viewership isn’t based on consumer trust alone. Many reputable sources discussing the TikTok algorithm have suggested that it “rewards” creators who get verified on TikTok, elevating their videos above the rest.

What Is a TikTok Verified Badge?

The TikTok verified badge, like other verification badges on social media, confirms that a brand is who they claim to be. All social platforms have their own version, including titans Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and X — formerly Twitter.

When learning how to get verified on TikTok, it’s important to ensure that you’re using the proper processes and channels. Using third-party sites that “guarantee” verification can lead to platform penalties. To keep yourself as safe as possible in the research process, keep in mind that TikTok does not currently “sell” verification badges at the time of this publication.

The only true way to get verified on TikTok is to work actively to improve your account, and to apply through the proper channels. If you’re not sure where to start, focus on increasing your follower count and engagement via platform best practices. Additionally, continue to post consistent, unique-to-you content that both entertains your current followers and attracts new ones.

Requirements to Get Verified on TikTok

How do you get verified on TikTok? Before you begin, consider making your account as competitive as possible. Below, we’ve listed the essential areas of focus that TikTok uses to determine verification approvals (beyond following the Terms of Use and Community Guidelines):

  • Your account must be active: Active, in this sense, means that you post on a regular posting schedule. If your account is inactive, there is a high chance that TikTok will not verify it.
  • Your account must be authentic: TikTok will not verify unidentified or fraudulent accounts. Individual accounts are required to prove their personal information and identity via approved documentation. Business accounts must also verify that they truly represent that brand, and will be prompted to provide appropriate legal business documentation.
  • Your account must be complete: It’s best practice to complete your TikTok profile before submitting it for verification. This means that you’ll need to fill out the “empty” profile boxes for information, such as your name and bio information.
  • Your account must be notable: TikTok does take follower count into their verification process, although it may not weigh as heavily as the other elements or compliance requirements.
  • Your account must be secure: TikTok will weigh the security of your account in its verification process, ensuring that two-step verification is on.

One of the fastest ways to grow your account on TikTok is to continuously create high-quality, unique content that encourages your viewers to stop the scroll. We’ve put together our helpful guide (TikTok Tips: How To Make a Good TikTok Video) to fast-track you through the learning process.

How to Get Verified on TikTok

How to Request Getting Verified on TikTok on the App

TikTok makes the process of verification requests simple in their native app interface. All you need is a few spare minutes and your verification information, as well as any media mentions you may have. Here’s how to get started verifying your account in the TikTok app.

  1. Open the TikTok app. Once you’ve logged in, tap on “Profile” at the bottom of your display.
  2. Go to your menu. Do this by tapping on the “Menu” button at the top corner of your screen, indicated by three short horizontal lines.
  3. Go to your settings. Tap on “Settings and Privacy” to continue.
  4. Request verification. Tap on “Account,” and then tap on “Verification.”*
  5. Follow the on-screen prompts. You’ll be guided through each step of the verification process in-app.

TikTok suggests that you submit media coverage proof to show your popularity as a creator or account rep, for example. And if you still cannot get verified on TikTok, you can always resubmit. You can reapply right away, however, your resubmission will be reviewed thirty days past the submission date.

Getting Verified on TikTok Using the Desktop Application

Learning how to get verified on TikTok via the mobile option is fast and convenient. However, at the time of this publication, TikTok has noted that the feature is not yet available in all global areas. Many still choose to work through the verification process using TikTok’s desktop application form. Here’s how to use it.

  1. Open the desktop application. You can access it via TikTok’s site to ensure that it’s legitimate.
  2. Complete the forms on-page. You’ll be prompted to submit your email address, your username and the nature of your request. Here, you’ll also be able to upload media proof to further substantiate your application.
  3. Agree to the terms. Acknowledge and agree to TikTok’s terms of service in the “Agreement” area of the form, and click “Submit.”
